San Marcos has plans to make history this year with the city’s first-ever Pride festival. With a growing population and a more open attitude in the community, Silvia Sandoval, the organizer behind SMTX Pride and dedicated LGBT activist, thought the San Marcos LGBT community “could use the recognition.” After years of working to bring the city its debut Pride – gaining the city’s approval, building community support and participation, and recruiting sponsors – the weekend-long festival is finally a go.
SMTX Pride weekend kicks off Friday, Sept. 5 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 7. Events and activities include Rainbow Night at the Fullmoon Saloon, a Pride parade Saturday morning at Square Court House Grounds, guest DJs, drag shows, meet-and-greets and much more.
