Nightlife: Highland Lounge Grand Opening

1882

A new gay club is making a splash this Monday in Austin’s warehouse district. Many old-timers will remember the space from its former incarnations – the legendary Halls and most recently Kiss & Fly. But the space will re-open its doors as Highland Lounge, a 10,000-square-foot club that serves not just as a lounge, but a happy hour patio bar and a dance club by night. The club notably has opened up to the street with large inviting windows, a sign of change from gay bars of old. The newly renovated bar and its team aim to set the bar high with a polished wait staff, craft cocktails, and a sophisticated decor and ambiance.

Owner Robert Grunnah hopes for Highland to deliver an elevated experience, a place where club-goers can “come after work to enjoy a drink, or come at 3am to dance and get crazy.” Aside from being a hub for nightlife activity, Highland will also host meetings and events for LGBT nonprofit organizations.
