Film: Austin Film Festival

3012

We’ve just wrapped up the Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival (aGLIFF) and on its heels comes the 21st Annual Austin Film Festival & Conference.  Since 1993, AFF has encouraged the “individual voice,” and has been active in supporting both professional and amateur filmmakers as well as organizations like aGLIFF. The festival recognizes and celebrates the art of storytelling in film with an emphasis on screenwriting and is the first of its kind to focus on the under-represented contribution of creative writing in the film industry.

This year’s festival and conference showcases national and world premieres, locally made films, including narrative features, animation, documentaries, and short films. Film enthusiasts can also enjoy Q&A sessions with actors and filmmakers after screenings and sit in on highly anticipated panels like “Finding Your Voice” featuring “Orange Is the New Black” writer Lauren Morelli, who this month came out in a public relationship with OITNB cast member Samira Wiley. With over 175 panels, workshops, and roundtables, over 200 premieres, and a host of parties at downtown hotspots, AFF is sure to keep attendees busy for the week. The festival starts Oct. 23, so check out the schedule and grab your badges quick!
