“It’s been great to see Black Fret evolve over the last several years to become an integral part of the music ecosystem here in Austin,” said Don Pitts, Music Manager for the City of Austin. “They identified a crucial need for our committed artists by providing the necessary resources as well as introducing them to new audiences.”

Black Fret is a public charity headquartered in Austin whose mission is to empower musicians to create and perform great new music. The organization is an innovative evolution of the age-old symphony patronage model that is focused on supporting popular local music. To date, Black Fret has awarded over $280,000 in grant dollars to local Austin artists. Also in 2016, $4,200 in grants were donated to HAAM by Black Fret Nominee Aaron Behrens.

“In a very short period of time Black Fret has proven that a small group of dedicated music fans and professionals can make a material difference in the lives of our artists,” said Colin Kendrick, Black Fret Founder.

Requiem for Tesla

The Off Center, Austin Texas
12/10/2016 | 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Requiem for Tesla is a semi-biographical, sci-fi homage to Nikola Tesla, a genius inventor who loved pigeons, hated spherical objects and was undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and controversial figures of all time. Requiem for Tesla is an ecstatic and evocative tribute to the man who gave us alternating current and dreamed of spaceships in a time when even electricity was dangerous magic. Tesla’s impassioned efforts to improve the quality of life for humankind left him straddling a line between genius and insanity.

Rude Mechs’ high-voltage stage-collage honoring the genius/madman fuses electrical magic, subconscious desire, and a real message from Mars. Featuring an hallucinatory Mark Twain, live music, and a spine-tingling Tesla coil all combust in this sci-fi electromagnetic polyphase dynamo play.
