Few instruments are more evocative than the cello. With a range that covers the lowest to the highest human voice, it gives us nothing less than the human condition, from the breath of life to the terminal sigh. Buckle your seat-belts, and join us for an international program of Mendelssohn, Fauré, Cassadó, Pärt and more.

Wine Tastings by Somm Wings Show runs Oct. 11th, 2016 – Jan.7th, 2017
October 2016 (Austin, TX) – Celebrate a new blend of art and wine at Art for the People. How does it get any better than a professional artist and an expert sommelier to guide you through the journey of The Soil of the Soul….the best 2-for-1 EVER!!!!
Mila Sketch was born in Murmansk, Russia and now lives and creates in Austin, Texas. Mila has exhibited her art throughout the world from Russia, Great Britain, Israel, California, and Austin, Texas where she calls home.
The Soil of the Soul exhibition is a line of artworks dedicated and inspired by wine and the wine community. Wine has a long history linked to culture, art, religion, territory, and people; it expresses so much more than just a Terroir. People enjoy when a wine tells a story. The desire to improve one’s knowledge can be a solo journey or enhanced with the tutelage of a sommelier.
In creating The Soil of the Soul, Mila worked intimately with the sommelier, Julia Dixon, of Somm Wings. Julia guided Mila in understanding the nuances of wine and Mila became a passionate wine lover. Julia’s love for wine inspired Mila’s The Soil of the Soul. The name of the exhibition originates from the idea that the character of a wine is defined by the types of soil and how the soul is defined by the soil where we live and love. We all come from somewhere and everywhere.

Sound Visual art show, curated by Veronica Kumpf, exhibits the works of artists inspired by sound or music. Contemporary working artists whose inspiration has been enhanced by the ephemeral of music. Genre painting dates back centuries and in today’s visual culture the images of musicians abound. However contemporary artists explore aspects of sound and music that move beyond the typical image of a performer. Using new media, sculpture, traditional painting, mixed media, photography and graphics, this group involved in Sound Visual express music as can only be seen through the critical contemporary lens of todays artists.
Sound Visual brings an experience each Saturday night during the month of October where sound artists/musicians perform their most experimental exploratory works. Beyond the filter of pop music and tradition, we explore the contemporary musician pushing the boundaries and making new discoveries in their ephemeral art.
