THE COUNSELING SESSION
AUSTIN, TX – Whatsinthemirror? is pleased to bring you The Counseling Session playing July 6-10 2016 on stage at Santa Cruz Studio Theater. This intense and explosive show written by Whatsinthemirror? founder Tarik Daniels takes us on a journey as we explore the concepts of love, mental health, the Church, and the consequences of our actions through the life of Lionel, a young college student, who is struggling with his blossoming sexuality and the devastation of a broken heart. The Counseling Session takes us to a place of understanding and completion, just to remind us that there is always a price to pay for our actions.
” Love is Real. Mental health is Real. The pain of a broken heart is Real. Abomination of the church is definitely Real. …” —Tarik Daniels
Starring CAMERON “MERCURY” MCKNIGHT, MAE ROSE HILL, NETONYA CLAYTON and WILLIAM BOYLES. Directed by award winning director LUIS A. ORDAZ GUTIERREZ (B. Iden Payne-Best Director 2015).Co-Founder and current artistic and executive director of ProyecoTeatro.
“It’s a director’s dream to have a script so simple in its actions, yet so intense in its narrative, because every minute is spent breaking down the psychology of the lives portrayed in this story. Every minute is spent molding humans straight from words, lines, and phrases that then become raw emotions” says Gutierrez. “The Counseling Session challenges the most uncomfortable conversations in the LGBTQ community of color through its honest portal of the human experience.”
Tickets are $15 for general admission .You may purchase tickets on-line at http://TheCounselingSession.Eventbrite.com. Performances are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:00 pm, and Sunday at 4:00 pm. Santa Cruz Studio Theater is located at 1805 East 7th street.

Jane Ellen Bryant set to release her EP ‘Twenties’ on July 8
Lambert’s, Austin Texas07/8/2016 - 07/9/2016 | 9:30 pm - 2:00 am
Austin-born songstress Jane Ellen Bryant announces the forthcoming release of a three-song EP entitled “Twenties.” Produced by Frenchie Smith, the EP is set to be released on Friday, July 8 at Lambert’s, located at 401 W 2nd St., Austin, TX 78701. The release party will feature headliners Emily Bell and the Talkbacks and Eric Burton. Doors are at 9:30 p.m. and Jane will hit the stage at 10:30 p.m.
Bryant’s music is driven by a natural fearlessness that pulls you in and makes you feel its unapologetic power. It was this daring energy and bold sound that attracted the attention of producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith, who has worked with the likes of Jet, Santana and The Toadies.
“There was always this daring, rock-n-roll thing happening in my head, but I never really had the confidence to explore it fully until I worked with Frenchie,” said Jane Ellen Bryant. “He truly listened to all that I was influenced by, heard my wildest musical ideas, and made it all come to life in the studio. It turned out to be more than I ever dreamed of. Now that this inner-self has been released, there’s no turning back. I’m forever grateful to Frenchie for helping me unlock this dream.”
“Of the bands I’ve personally gotten record deals/agents/management etc. in the past…Jane is fundamentally the most important artist I’ve met,” says Frenchie Smith. He goes on to say that Jane’s music is “capturing the madness of youth, the manic perils of opening up about heartbreak, all while bringing the listener in more and more by telling the truth. What I look for in an artist is believability, and whatever Jane is performing, I believe it.”
Born and bred in the Live Music Capitol, Bryant grew up surrounded by the very sound, creativity and mystique that has granted Austin its world-renowned title. Drawing from the artistic energy that this city exudes, Jane has found a sound that is raw, infectious and all the while inviting and warm.
“‘Twenties,’ captures the pivotal time in a person’s life when they are worn down by uncertainty, fear, yet feel excited and hopeful for the future; it speaks to the younger generations who have yet to figure it all out, and it presents an element of nostalgia to older generations who remember that tumultuous time in their own lives,” said Bryant.
