Community: Trail of Lights

2220

The lights are on! The holiday tradition in Zilker Park returns for its 50th year. The Trail of Lights had its grand opening this past Sunday for the 2014 holiday season, welcoming thousands of festive Austinites and tourists alike to 1.2 miles of lighted tunnels, displays, activities and more.

This year’s celebration includes activity zones for family fun, food stops featuring some of Austin’s favorite food trucks, holiday shopping stops, community performances, new light displays and attractions, and, of course, tons of opportunities for holiday photos. The Trail of Lights also features returning favorites including the Ferris Wheel overlooking Austin’s skyline, the newly restored Yule Log, and the iconic Zilker light tree.

If you’re looking to experience the Trail of Lights with a little LGBT twist this year, try this: join the Queer Ride, the weekly social bike ride for queer folks and allies, this Wednesday as they bike down to the Trail of Lights. Queer Ride offers a unique way to explore Austin with guided rides that include always changing pit stops and destinations. Bring your own bike, helmet, and lights.
