At the Barkitecture Austin 2007 event, held in the 2ND Street District, dogs brought out their humans for a day in the urban dog park. Thirty Austin architecture and design firms were invited to unleash their creativity by building unique doghouses to benefit local rescue groups.

Architects were required to work within a set of contruction parameters: using recycled and sustainable materials, and keeping within a $500 budget. All doghouses were bid on via silent auction with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting Animal Trustees of Austin, Lucky Mutts, Austin Dog Rescue and Blue Dog Rescue.

Event activities included a doggy fashion show at Estilo, a dog-friendly prize raffle, and an award ceremony for the most outstanding doghouses and auction winners.

Thanks to Catherine DeStasio and the 2ND Street District merchants for hosting one heck of a dog and pony show!
