Christopher Carbone

Alisa WeldonChristopher Carbone has been writing for as long as he can remember. Having kept a journal since he was child, his first foray into the media world was at New York Press, an alt-weekly paper in Manhattan, where he did everything from fetch coffee to fact-check stories and write features. While working at The Daily Targum—the student-run newspaper of Rutgers University—Carbone recognized the power of the pen. "It was the night that Matthew Shepard was murdered," he said. "I was working on an editorial addressing the implications of what was, at that point, the first time that most people were able to personalize the term hate-crime."
In January of 2008, he traded his fast-paced lifestyle in New York City for Austin, looking to recharge and take a break from the high cost of living. "My time in Austin has allowed me to meet, write about and get to know a wide range of creative, smart people," he said. A voracious reader, budding foodie and politics aficionado, Carbone reads the latest nonfiction books, magazines such as The Advocate and sites such as The Faster Times to keep abreast of the world around him. "My favorite writer is Joan Didion," he said. "Her talent with language is so inspiring." Carbone has worked as a writer and copy editor at publications such as Organic Style, Glamour, The New York Sun and Interview.
