Now living in Houston, journalist A.J. Mistretta spent several years covering the people and companies that make Austin tick. Along the way, he met some interesting characters and discovered there's a lot more to the Capital City than initially meets the eye. “Austin has evolved so much over the last few years alone,” he says. “And with that general growth, the city’s gay and lesbian community has also expanded. Austin has more out leaders, business owners, activists and other community contributors than ever before.” Mistretta returns to Austin regularly for events and just to hang out. “I’ve made so many wonderful friends here through the years. Austin truly is Texas’ playground.”
