A Guide to Valentine’s Day

2728

Each year as Valentine’s Day approaches, we come across people of all types – those who celebrate love, those who don’t, the third wheel who wants to tag along on your date, or the skeptic who thinks V-Day was invented by or for the candy companies. But no matter who thinks what, one thing remains constant: February 14th is a big day for many, and like all “big days,” it takes some thought and planning. This Saturday we’ll celebrate yet another day of love and if you haven’t finished planning for that special person, we’ve got some ideas that may help you out a bit.

Can’t Go Wrong With Diamonds

No gift says “I love you,” better than a gift your honey can wear and Benold’s Jewelers has the perfect gift for your valentine. Charm your valentine with something they can cherish forever – something that will always remind that special someone how much you care. You just can’t go wrong with a little sparkle that shows the one you love that he or she is the twinkle in your eye. What makes this gift even sweeter? Spa Date

If your valentine is a hard worker, one who never takes a day off and is constantly on the move, a little relaxation is just what the doctor (you) ordered this Valentine’s Day. Treat your special someone to a day at the spa at milk + honey, Austin’s premier spa. This V-Day, milk + honey offers a variety of packages from the Valentines Mini Retreat package to Date Night and Couples Retreat packages. Who wouldn’t want to spend Valentine’s Day the milk + honey way?

A Beauty. A Beast. A Ballet?

Movie nights are always a good way to go, but if you’re looking to up the ante a bit, try venturing out to a ballet this Valentine’s Day. This Valentine’s Day weekend, Ballet Austin presents Belle Redux – A Tale of Beauty & The Beast at The Long Center. Choreographed by innovative choreographer Stephen Mills, this classic fairy tale takes on an intriguing modern twist. It’s described as “sleek and sexy,” so this may be the perfect romantic date for a very romantic night.

Dine With The One You Love

Dinner, of course, is a given! Now the question is, where should you take your lovely date? Here are a few suggestions that would be perfect for a Valentine’s Day dinner:

The Romantic Getaway

I’m sure for many, this won’t be the first Valentine’s Day you’ve celebrated (or I could be wrong), but with that being said, it’s perfectly normal to feel like you’ve done it all and you’re now running out of V-Day ideas. So here’s a tip: plan a getaway, just you and your special someone! Try exploring some place new or maybe even travel to your favorite place. Our “favorite place” this month is the romantic and charming city of New Orleans. Only about 8 hours away from Austin, this trip wouldn’t be far out of reach at all. And even better – it happens to be Mardi Gras weekend. This can be a unique and unforgettable Valentine’s Day experience.

If you’re not totally sold on NOLA, Marfa, Texas is another quick getaway  you and your date can enjoy. The small West Texas town is known for its thriving art, film, music and festival scene, but it also known as an ideal place for weekend getaways with tons of culture and fun to get lost in.

On the opposite end of things, if you’re planning to stay put this V-Day, there are certainly things to get into. Here are some events spreading the love around Austin this Valentine’s Day:

Last But Not Least, Get Creative

When all else fails, get creative. Everyone knows it’s the thought that counts and the more thought you put into your gift, the more special it is. Creative ways to show you care and show your love are always most memorable, so here are some ideas:

Bead It: Instead of purchasing jewelry, take your date to Bead It on S. Lamar and create something special. You can make it yourself, or create together – either way, your special someone will appreciate the thought!

SpraTX: Try an adventure and participate in Free Art Friday! While it’s not exactly on Valentine’s Day, it’s still an experience your date will enjoy (and may be addicted to afterwards because it’s so fun). You’ll be all around Austin scooping up awesome treasures and the best part is, every time you look back on your adventure with SpraTX, you’ll think of your valentine.
