Hearts racing, Instagram feeds constantly refreshing, and A/C blasting, we sat in our car to avoid the sweltering heat, desperate to find a piece of local treasure every Friday. SpraTX, an Austin street art collective, facilitates a free scavenger hunt known as #ATXFreeArtFriday. This city-wide art project is simple, yet exhilarating– local artists create and hide art anywhere in the city for the community to find. Free Art Friday caters to the social media user with a love for adventure and local art: clues are left in Instagram posts. But be warned: it’s pretty addicting (in a good way). SpraTX’s Free Art Friday is an awesome way to get to know your community, support local art, and discover local artists. The best part of it all– it costs nothing to participate and is tons of fun, perhaps the most fun we’ve had on a Friday afternoon in a while.
